Exhibitors ecstatic about changes at McCormick Place

May 24, 2011

A great place of uncertainty is an article written by Kathy Bergen of the Chicago Tribune.  It talks to the lawsuit and questions that cloud prospects of long-term success of the McCormick Place overhaul based on the Judge's reversal of money-saving labor rules changes on hold; which are causing some exhibitors to still complain about high costs in Chicago.

In the article - PACK EXPO organizers are saying that they saw a cost savings of $2.4 million after its 2010 event and attributed that savings to the labor-rule changes enacted by the state a year ago. That is awesome (assuming the cost savings are passed onto the exhibitor)!!

SO WHY CHANGE IT BACK???

We need to focus on bringing associations INTO Chicago and driving UP business - otherwise it can dry up and then NO ONE will be happy when all the shows move to Las Vegas or Orlando.  Chicago really only has a few months out of the year that they can produce shows based on schedules and the weather.  WHY do we want to reduce our chances of getting these shows?

Unions?  Come on!!!

What do you think?
